d i n g u m is a neologism. Escaping the logic of representation or fixed meaning, the term solely refers to itself. More of a placeholder than an empty signifier, this self-chosen void allows for an expanded definition of art and multiple ways of reading.

Under the name “Dingum” Hannes Schmidt and Dennis Oliver Schroer organize since 2011 exhibitions of contemporary art. Dingum aims to challenge the classical spatial conditions of exhibitions in favor of site-specificity and an expansion towards public spaces. Dynamic in nature, d i n g u m changes its form, focus and location over time.

Der Name d i n g u m ist eine Wortschöpfung, ein Neologismus, dem keine feste Bedeutung oder Inhalt zuzuordnen ist. Der Begriff verweist bei der Suche nach einer möglichen Interpretation somit ausschließlich auf sich selbst.  Als Platzhalter und selbst gesetzte Leerstelle steht er für eine programmatische Ausfüllung und kontinuierliche Diskussion über ein mögliches Verhältnis zur Kunst.
